CNC Products: TROUT UPDATE FEBRUARY 2012

TROUT UPDATE

I do hope everyone has had  a happy January and that we will all be looking forward to an easier year.

The local trout farmers have completed their annual harvest.  Imported trout has been secured and  been cleared by NRCS( National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications ).

Please be aware of the switch to imported trout.  The colour and texture will differ from local trout and is generally more oily.

We will be receiving fresh trout throughout the off season, but there will be interruptions in the harvest and so we cannot commit to fresh fish at any given time with any degree of certainty.  The local harvest season should commence at around middle to end of August ,as usual.

We will keep you updated as we go along;.

We have been inundated this past year with our freshly smoked trout fillets, both hot and cold and sales of fresh trout.  If you want to be kept informed as to when fresh trout comes in, please email Claire at ordersclaire@cncproducts.co.za

Peanuts are said to promote heart health and prevent against certain cardiovascular diseases.

They are packed with Magnesium, Sodium and Zinc – all these valuable minerals that prevent heart disease. Peanuts also contain Vitamin E which is a powerful antioxidant that is said to reduce a person’s risk of coronary disease. They also contain essential fatty acids such as Omega 6, which lowers the bad cholesterol in the bloodstream. Packed with all these benefits… who can go wrong with a handful of Peanuts a day. Linseeds (also known as Flax seeds) come in two colours, gold and bronze. The gold ones have a slightly milder flavor and the bronze taste more distinctive, nuttier, almost malty. Linseed is not a nut and not related to sesame either. It is said that Linseed contain beneficial nutrients, such as protein, fibre, various vitamins, minerals and omega-3 fatty acids in the form of lignans. Lignans are phytoestrogens, which have a positive hormone-like action in the body. It is said that Lignans have anti-cancer properties, as well as having antibacterial, anti-fungal and antiviral properties. Phytoestrogens can possibly prevent some types of cancer, including oestrogen-dependent breast cancer, as well as colon and prostate cancer. Linseed (or flax seeds) are said to have more than 100 times as much natural phytoestrogenic lignans than any other plant source. The omega-3 fatty acid found in Linseed is beneficial for heart health as they reduce inflammation in the body and especially in the heart. The natural lubricant properties and source of fibre makes linseed beneficial for constipation and colon health promotion. It is said that Linseed provides the fats that are the precursors to brain building compounds and also promotes healthy skin!
